Heart of My Heart

Category:FAMILY & RELATIONSHIPS, RELIGION

Format:HARDCOVER BOOK
Publish Date:4/9/2010
Price:$16.99/$19.99
ISBN:9780446561693
Pages:384
Size:5" x 7"

Whether God is using Kristin to raise children or the children to grow Kristin, He is present in every moment and every page. This warm, real, and insightful devotional celebrates the journey of growth mothers take with their children. Since their births, Kristin realized she has "discovered more about myself and my God in the pursuit of discovering my children." Each entry in this 365-day devotional contains a Bible verse and a personal reflection from Kristin. It is on this intimate, daily walk that mothers can gain the courage to rely on God and emerge as a better woman.

Kristin Armstrong was married to cyclist Lance Armstrong for five years, raising their three children while living in France and Spain. She is the author of a children's book, Lance Armstrong: The Race of His Life, and a contributing editor for Runner's World magazine. Kristin is passionate about her Christian faith, her family, her friends, and her career. She speaks French and Spanish, is a marathon runner, and enjoys cooking, reading, painting, and traveling. Kristin now lives in Austin, Texas, with her family--her son, Luke, and twin daughters, Grace and Isabelle.

My thoughts:
I really liked that this was a devotional type book, so you could read one page at a time.  I loved that it a scripture quoted and then how the author, Kristin Armstrong, wrote about her reflections of that scripture and how it related to motherhood.  I think this would be a great book for Christian Moms.

Wouldnt you like to share/read  this book this Mothers Day?  Three lucky readers can win a copy to do just that!  To enter:  Tell me something special about your mother or child. (1 entry)

Mamavation Monday

>
Well last week I put in my official application to become a Mamavation Mom.  I really could use all the support I can get...and want to say thank to all those that have tweeted for me and left me comments supporting me already!

This past week was kind of slow for me.  I did exercise, but didnt really boost my workouts like I wanted.  I woke up ready to move this morning and decided to restack wood for over an hour early this morning!  I feel like I have lots of energy...which is great, as my parents are visitting this week.  My mom does not like staying in one spot too long...so I know we will always be on the run!  So although I didnt lose any weight this week...I am sure I will see a loss next Monday!

If you are free...come check out Mamavation TV every Monday night at 9pm central.

Speaking of being on the run...I have to give a shout out to one of the great sponsors of Mamavation, Earth footwear.  For all of April they will be doing special giveaways for Earth day!  So make sure to check them out...and I would so love to win a pair to help tone up while enjoying these nice days out walking!

My goals this week:  Get lots of exercise in by sight seeing with my parents...and to still do my EASports Active More Workouts challenge.  Also to make sure to eat healthy!

Storytime Sunday: "Is There a Monster Over There?"

>
Is there a monster over there?
By Sally O. Lee

ISBN: 978-1450531023
Publisher: CreateSpace
Date of publish: Feb 13, 2010
Pages: 36
S.R.P.: $17.99

About the book:
"Is there a monster over there?" tells the story of Mabel who is afraid of monsters. She thinks they are lurking under her bed or behind the door. One day she decides to face the monster and learns some wonderful lessons about facing her fears.

About the author:
Sally O. Lee earned her BA in Studio Art and Art History (with Distinction) from Colby College and then went on to study graphic design and painting in Boston (Art Institute of Boston) and in New York City (New York Studio School). She has had several shows of her work and received an art grant from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology to conceive and create a series of paintings, and from this came her 2002 exhibition- A Journey Into Abstraction. Some of Ms. Lee's paintings are in various private collections in the US.

In recent years, Ms. Lee has begun to write and illustrate children's books. Some of them deal with the struggles of living with some form of handicap...or, as the author prefers to call it, imperfection. Many of her illustrations have been published and she has earned both academic and public recognition for her important work in children's books. She has had illustrations published in Worldlink Magazine, IEEE Magazine, and several other publications. Sally lives and works in Massachusetts.

Sally Lee writes "My children's books are an extension of my work as a painter. Writing is a new addition for me, and I am enjoying it very much. And creating the illustrations is a perfect way to continue my painting in a new direction and a nice way to complement my writing. I hope to write and illustrate many more".

~When asked what inspired Lee to write this particular story, she said, "Every kid has fears. And usually they lurk under their bed, or in their closet, or maybe it's a person or place. This book teaches kids to face their fears head on and the result is usually very positive and empowering."

My thoughts:
I thought "Is There a Monster Over There?" is a fun book to help children overcome their bedtime fears.  I love how the character overcame her fears, with the help of her kitty, and became friends with the monster.  I liked how the books shows that creatures are typically just as scared of us, as we are of them.  This would be helpful for fear of animals or insects that so many children have, as well as bedtime "monsters".

The illustrations were cute and we loved the monster and all his scary yet loveable characteristics.  My children and I loved him all dressed up at the tea party and the nice touch of sitting watching the sun set together.  My daughter really loved the whole book!

Photohunt theme: Fresh

>
Here are my parents enjoying the fresh air high up on Macinack Island.  They will be coming to visit us in just a few days.  We were thinking of going there again as it is supposed to be pretty warm here for this time of year, but we know we will not have all that greenery around.

Fitness Friday: National Nutrition Month

>
One area I have been trying to focus on more is Nutrition.  I have really been trying to lose weight but even more, eat healthy.  I have been really learning a lot about nutritious food.  What does eating right mean to you?  To me it means eating lots of variety of foods.  An easy way to do this is by eating many colored foods.  When grocery shopping stick to the outside perimeters of the stores, as this is where the healthiest of the foods will be, produce, meats, dairy...vs in the aisles where the processed foods will be.  When shopping the produce section...think about the rainbow and choose things of all colors.  The more colorful typically means more nutritious!

I'm Blogging National Nutrition Month

I have learned a lot about safe food handling also.
Great video on food safety:

Where Do We Go by James F. Weinsier

>

About the book:
The death of a loved one is difficult enough for an adult to understand and cope with; imagine how much more difficult it is for a child! Where Do We Go? delicately explores the theme of death in a child-friendly fashion with reassuring, thought-provoking text and cheerful illustrations. With compassion and sensitivity, James F. Weinsier addresses the age-old, complex question: Where do we go when we die?

In the words of Laura Duksta, author of the New York Times bestseller I Love You More, "Where Do We Go? Brings joy, play and ease to what is often an awkward conversation. Its message is a precious tool that will open the hearts and imagination of its readers to a greater awareness of love, life and beyond!"

Where Do We Go? is as helpful to children as it is to the adults challenged with the bewildering task of discussing death with them.

James F. Weinsier's child-friendly, non-secular exploration of death compatibly blends with any religious, spiritual or nondenominational framework, opening a pathway for parents, caregivers and other adults to approach the subject of death within any given belief system, while giving children the comfort they desperately need. Where Do We Go? helps them find the answers to the mystery of death within their own hearts.

About the Author:Born in New York City in 1945, James Weinsier was raised on Long Island. He received an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences from Nassau Community College in 1964, followed by service in the U. S. Navy. Upon completing his tour of duty, he resumed his education at the University of Miami, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He is now retired and lives with his wife, in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Weinsier first grappled with writing in 1996, when in anticipation of his daughter's 21st birthday, he decided to give her something unique and straight from his heart. The result was a 100-page journal of special memories he and his daughter shared written in poetic verse. The manuscript was so well-received by his daughter that he published a 70-page book of thoughts for his father, Here…and Afterthoughts, and gave it to him for his 90th birthday. James continued to write, and three years after his first published work was released More…Thoughts was completed. This book contains 199 pages of sentiments commonly shared between parents and their children. James presented it to his father on his 93rd birthday-shortly before his passing.

In 2006, James experienced the devastating losses of three family members: his father, a son and grandson, Isaac Randolph, who died in a neonatal infant care unit from complications of necrotizing enterocolitis (an intestinal disorder) 10 days after his premature birth. In response to the pertinent questions from his other young grandchildren about what happens to us after we die, James wrote a children's book, Where Do We Go?, which was published in 2008.
"Wondrous" events took place a couple of weeks after the book's publication, which was two years after Isaac's death. On the exact month and day of Isaac's death and only a few minutes from the exact time of his death on that date, Weinsier's daughter gave birth to her second child, James Walter. Baby James was premature and followed his brother's path into the NIC Unit. Fortunately, his issues were not catastrophic, and on his 10th day of life, James W. was strong enough to go to his family's home in Kansas; while on the 10th day after Isaac's birth, he had passed away. Both boys went "home" on the 10th day...

My thoughts:

I thought this was nicely written to discuss such a delicate topic.  I liked how it never really answered the question "Where do we go", yet gave many questions that children may have.  I thought this would be a great book to read to little ones when someone has passed away.  It would be really helpful in bringing up the questions and leaving the answers up to the family.  I loved the ending, in reminding the readers that the loved one will always be with them, in their hurts.  It is definitely a child friendly book that can open up this topic for more heartfelt discussions.  I could really see the questions as ones children think of, like "Are we going to get any older or stay the same age we are?"  I know as adults, we like to really talk about our favorite memories of the loved one.  I think this is definitely a great way for the children to do the same.  I think both the story and the illustrations can really help the child remember a loved one that has passed.

The illustrations are great too.  They are filled with so much detail.  They are colorful and really pull the children in to explore them more.  They express the emotions of both the characters and what the reader may have while exploring these questions.

I would definitely recommend this book for children 2-8 years old.  It would be great to read immediately after a loved one has passed away, or for times later when they just want to talk about the topic or a loved one.

Where Do We Go? (ISBN: 978-0-61523-805-0), a Wondrous Publications book, retails for $12.95 and can be purchased on Amazon.com and through Books Plus by calling 877-630-8998. Visit http://www.wondrousbooksonline.com/ for more info.

The Animal Boogie by Debbie Harter

>

The Animal Boogie by Debbie Harter is a fun storybook and CD for young children.  I had the pleasure of reading this story to both my children, age 5 and 8, and their friends who are 2 and 3 years old.  They loved it!

We first read the storybook.  It is a fun sing song format where the reader can get very dramatic and act out the story or sing as a song.  All the children loved how each page was like a search and find picture book.  For example the first page asked "What's the creature shaking here and there?", and the illustrations  showed the jungle with some animals in the open and the one the story was talking about hiding in the background, with just a little sticking out to give them a clue.  This was really fun having them think about what animal it could be and searching through the illustrations.

The illustrations were great.  They were so colorful and fun.  I liked how there was a person in each picture, and loved the added touch of having a child in a wheelchair.  Having a child in a wheelchair myself, I like finding books that feature children with disabilities.

We then listened to the CD which was great with two different formats.  The first was the song sang, just like the story.  The second was the music with the animal sounds (that correspond to those in the story/song).  The kids really really liked the singing version.  They were dancing and we were acting out the motions of the animals in the story/song.

The book and CD combinations was great and we would definitely recommend this for preschool and elementary age children.

Animal Boogie can be previewed and purchased from the Barefoot Books store by clicking here

Children and families can now sing along with creatures of the Indian jungle in a free animated video of The Animal Boogie at http://www.barefootbooks.com/animal_boogie_video. One of Barefoot Books’ bestselling books, with more than a million copies sold, The Animal Boogie introduces children to the creatures of the Indian jungle with an adaptation of a popular playground song. The book has garnered many awards and has received praise for the inclusive way in which it speaks to children with disabilities.

The Animal Boogie, illustrated by Debbie Harter, whose endearing pictures also appear in the popular Barefoot Books Bear series, was first published by Barefoot Books in 2000. It has become a classroom favorite, used by teachers across the world to bring early learning to life through music and movement. The book has been a particular hit in south-east Asia , where it is widely used to teach children English.

“We are excited to give children the chance to watch the characters in The Animal Boogie brought to life in a new way. Everyone who hears the song can’t help but get up and dance; with the video, we’d like to get even more families on their feet,” said Barefoot Books Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief, Tessa Strickland.

The Animal Boogie is the second in a series of digital videos created by Barefoot Books. The first, Driving My Tractor, (http://www.barefootbooks.com/driving_my_tractor_video), sung by award-winning children’s performer Steve Songs, was launched in Autumn 2009 to wide acclaim. More popular Barefoot Books stories will be available in digital video format in the coming months.

Monday Madness

>
So last week was a bit crazy.  Cortnie has been having seizures/psuedoseizures which are more active during school.  She is staying with us right now so I have been doing a lot more running around, bringing her to school and picking up.  We are hoping this week goes better and she can make it through the school day without needing to leave!

This week is going to be busy anyways.  Wednesday Cortnie has an appointment but her Mom is bringing her, so a little less running around Tuesday and Wednesday.  I do have to do running Wednesday anyways though, as Kennedy has an appointment at childrens.  Thursday we are watching our friends kids for a few days.  So our house will be kind of busy!  Ok a lot busy with an extra 2 and 3 year old...but Zach and Kennedy will love it.  Zach loves the girls!  Then the following week my parents are coming to visit...yeahhhhh!  I cant wait!  So somehow I am going to try to keep the kids happy, and yet keep my house clean...hahahhahaha!

oh and if you havent read my last post...please do.  I have applied to become the next #mamavation mom.  Two ladies are chosen to become the Mamavation Moms, and they receive so much support from Mamavation creator @bookieboo and all the mamavation sistas and cheerleaders, as well as some great items from very generous sponsors to help them too!  I really need the push to keep moving and would love lots of support!  Come follow me on twitter @colleen_mouse and tweet to show your support.  " Hey @bookieboo! I want @colleen_mouse to be the next #mamavation mom.  She has my support! "

Mamavation Monday: My application to become the next Mamavation Mom

>

So Friday I said I would be posting my application to become the next Mamavation Mom...well here it is.

It was kind of hard, as I hate public speaking..I remember standing up in college and totally freezing in front of about 1000 people, yikes! I guess I also talk more than I realized, and had to edit it to cut out about half of what I said to keep it around 4minutes.

So as I say on the video...even though I have lost 50lbs  I still would really love to be the next Mamavation Mom.  According to my height I probably should still lose at least 40lbs.  For this next couple months I am setting a goal, whether I become the Mamavation Mom or not, to lose 20lbs by June!  I am ready to get serious!!!  I would love all your support!

Please follow me on twitter @colleen_mouse and show your support by tweeting:

"Hey @bookieboo I want @colleen_mouse to be the next #Mamavation Mom.  She has my support!"

My struggles this week have been with food.....I have wanted sweets like icecream and given in a  bit too much.  So my goal for this week is to have some willpower and not give into temptation...I made a frozen fruit snack with some pomegranate and lime juice and if I am getting a sweet tooth a little of that will have to do!

My successes this week have been exercising.  Last week I started the 6 week challenge with my EA Sports Active More Workouts.  I have also done some walking and even some running uphill pushing a stroller!  My goal is to continue doing both of these this week.

Down almost a pound this week!
Currently 176.5
Total loss since 1/09 52.5lbs
(short term goal 165 by 5/1)

I also wanted to share a little about my kids, who are my inspiration to lose weight an get healthy.  A couple years ago I threw my back out, and I was lucky at that time because my daughter was almost 20lbs lighter and could crawl and stand with help.  Then just a few months later she started having bad seizures and was hospitalized for a couple months.  She lost all her ability to sit, crawl, stand and eat.  She put on some weight from not moving around and different tube feedings.  Today I have to lift her to do all the things she used to do.  Spring is here and summer is coming and we love to go outside.  I would love to be fit to lift her into her swing and later this summer hold her in our swimming pool.  I have to be fit and not throw my back out, because I just wouldnt know what to do if I did!  Here is a little of her:

My son is just a busy body and loves action....climbing, jumping, running...you name it.  He is my biggest cheerleader, and my workout buddy:

Storytime Sunday: Hayseed's First Race

>
Giveaway closed.
Congrats to theyyyguy!

Written & Illustrated by Sally Schrock

Hayseed is not your typical race horse.  He had always loved himself, and loved wearing his white socks and red high tops.  The day had come for him to race in his first race.  He was picked on by Prince Perfect and he started to doubt himself and feel out of place.  In the story Hayseed's First Race, Hayseed remembers to love himself for who he is and never let others make him feel like he doesn't belong.  This is such a great message to kids.  It is great to encourage our children to be themselves, everyone is special and everyone is unique. It is that uniqueness that may help them succeed!   I loved the message of the story.

The illustrations are great too.  At first I thought the cover was kind of simple looking and didnt know how much attention it would draw.  It has a white cover with some simple block lettering for the title with a picture of the two racehorses on it.  I obviously was wrong on the cover, as my son has not set the book down in a week.  He even carries it to bed.  I am thinking that the simpleness of the cover is what he is drawn to.  That the racehorses take center stage and there is no distracting colors and designs.  The illustrations throughout the book are really cute and I just love Hayseed and his red hightops.

I think the story is long enough for a great lesson to be learned, and short enough for early readers to read on their own, or keep the attention of toddlers.  I think this would be a great one to share with your little ones and great for early readers.  I would recommend it for ages 3-8. Although I think all children can relate to this story I think this would be a great one for any child like mine, that has a special need.  Let them learn to not let anyone tell them they don't belong.   This is one "winning" story!

My thoughts:
This was a very informative book with a lot of information that I found pretty useful.  I loved that you could find it all in one place!  It was well thought out and organized into several categories.  I really liked how it was divided into problem areas and then seasons.  This way you could skip to the section you may be needing just then.  I also liked how within each category Charla Krupp gave you pictures of the "high fat" vs. "no fat" looks, as well as which clothes in that area will make you look fatter or look thinner.  She also splits a special section in each category for petites or size 14&up.  I really like that "thinner by tonight" in each category....she knows us women are procrastinators and will wait until the last minute and then complain everything makes us look fat!  She gives great information on things not to waste our money on and things that are worth every penny.  Also if needed she discusses the "going to extremes" solutions.  I thought this book was great...and will be pulling it out before my shopping trips.  Right now I loved the summer section and the workout clothes.  She even talks about shoes, hair and makeup.  I cant think of any area she missed.

Fitness Friday: POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice

>
Pomegranates are one of mankind's earliest cultivated fruits.  Throughout history, the pomigranate has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility, and rebirth.  Some cultures also believed it held profound and mystical healing powers.

In the last decade, POM Wonderful has provided $32 million to fund world-class scientific research on pomegranates resulting in over 45 published studies.  POM works with top scientiest, including Nobel Laureate, at leading academic institutions around the world.  Since there are dozens of pomegrante varieties and many techniques of making pomegranate juice, it is important to remember that these studies all featured POM's "Wonderful" variety pomegranate juice, made using their proprietary juicing method.

Their research studies have shown positive effects  on patients who drank 8ounces of POM wonderful pomegranate juice daily.  These studies showed improvements in heart, prostate, erectile function and other conditions and have shown documented benefits of drinking POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice daily.  Hundreds of scientific tests show POM to be a superior source of antioxidants, with more potent antioxidants than red wine, grape juice, blueberry juice, cranberry juice, green tea, vitamin C and Vitamin E.

(To read full studies, go to http://www.pomwonderful.com/thescience.html )

POM Wonderful pomegranate orchards are located in California's sunny San Joaquin Valley.  They never use imported juice.  They grow their own fruit, pick it by hand, and squeeze it with their own proprietary presses and manufacture their own bottles.  They control quality at every step of the way!

We had the pleasure of trying out POM Wonderful.  My husband actually has bought this while seeking out pomegranate juice in the past.  The first time he went to buy pomegranate juice he realized so many said pomegranate juice but were filled with many other types of juice as fillers.  He saw POM Wonderful's uniquely shaped bottles and saw it was 100% pomegranate juice.  We both enjoyed the juice from the first time we tried it.  It has a dark burgundy color and a wonderful taste(somewhat similar to dark grape juice in my opinion).

More recently we found some recipes on http://www.pomwonderful.com/ that we tried out using the POM Wonderful juice.  We have made two kinds of smoothies, in which my kids really really enjoyed!  One of the simple smoothies we made was just two simple ingredients, fat free frozen blueberry yogurt and POM juice.  It was sooooooo GOOD!  I found this was a great way to get the nutritious value while having a wonderful treat!  Another recipe I tried was POM Granita(frozen juice snack).  This was great too(a bit on the tart side, which I love).  This was POM juice, water, a little sugar, and lime juice.  I loved the combination and could see this also being made into juicepopsicles!  I will definitely be making this as the weather turns hotter this summer for a cool summer treat!   There are so many wonderful recipes on the website that include both the POM juice and pomegranates.  I unfortunately have had a difficult time finding pomegranates so have been enjoying the juice.  I cant wait until Easter to try my cheesecake with the POM topping recipe!

There was nothing about the juice that I did not like, that only problem I had was that the topswere difficult to get off.  You may need a strong person around to twist off those tops!  I love how healthy POM Wonderful Juice is and it has been a great way for me to get in an easy serving of fruit in my diet!

disclosure-The company and research information, as well as free product was provided to me by POM for my review.

Yo Gabba Gabba live partied in my city!!!

>

I am sitting here with Yo Gabba Gabba playing in the background.  We recently had the pleasure of going to the Live Show last Sunday!  If your kids like YoGabbaGabba you have got to check it out, Yo Gabba Gabba live...Theres a party in my City!

Although the show is not my son's favorite(he likes it alot), I think this was the best Live show we have ever gone to.  It was like a rock concert for little kids!  It was so lively, entertaining and fun!  We loved it!  All the kids were up and dancing around and singing all the songs, and joining in on all the fun.  They had all the characters and some special guests!

Featuring DJ Lance Rock and everyone’s favorite cast of characters– Brobee (the little green one), Foofa (the pink flower bubble), Muno (the red Cyclops), Plex (the magic robot), and Toodee (the blue cat-dragon), YO GABBA GABBA! LIVE!: THERE’S A PARTY IN MY CITY is packed with music, animation, games, singing, and dancing. Master your beat boxing skills with the legendary Biz Markie. See musical guests rock out during the “Super Music Friends” show. Plus you never know who will show up for a “Dancey Dance.”

They played all the favorite songs and dances, having lots of special effects from tons of different lighting options to balloons for all, confetti and bubbles!  Everything was so entertaining.

disclosure:  I received complimentary tickets to the show for posting information about the upcoming show and hosting a giveaway.

TicklerTags

>

For many children, after school activities and transportation arrangements can be a bit confusing and stressful once the bell rings at the end of the school day. Not remembering if Mom was going to pick them up or if they should ride the bus home can present a variety of problems and anxiety for children, parents and even teachers. That’s exactly how the simple two-tag TicklerTags system got its start. After a couple of missed buses and misunderstood intentions, TicklerTags developer, Nicole Budleski developed a basic set of tags to help her daughter remember the day’s plan. After testing TicklerTags with local friends and other busy families, Nicole decided to share this solution with other families.

TicklerTags are great!  We have had the pleasure of trying them out the last couple weeks with Zach and the response has been great!  He loves them, I love them, and his teacher loves them.  Zach is autistic and he likes a routine.  The TicklerTags hooked on his backpack have been great on those days we need to change his routine.  These came just in time too, as started a yogakids class after school one day a week.  He typically rides the bus home, but on these days I pick him up.  So most days I put the "ride the bus" TicklerTag on his backpack, except Mondays I put the "Mom picks me up" TicklerTag on.  His teacher said this has been great, as he shows her it in the morning and then has that reminder as the day ends.  She made sure to note the website herself so that she can check them out for other kids/classroom.  I also chose TicklerTags for early dismissal, and appointment days to help with those differences in his schedule too, but have not had to use them yet.

They have several designs/categories  to choose from.  They are great for after school activities, joint custody, daycare arrangements, appointments and even words of encouragement. You can choose from categories of Trangsportation Tags, Activity Tags, TicklerTags, or if you have an idea for a tag they do not have you can have a Customized Tag made.

Unfortunately they didnt have a yoga tag, but they do have many typical activity tags  like basketball, baseball., dance and music.   Also under the Activity Tags category is options like appointment today, Going to Dad's house, Daycare, as well as many other choices.  The Transportation tags are great too for many different options, like Mom, or Grandpa picking up or carpool, etc.  I think the transportation tags are great reminders for the kids to help to know if they need to get on the bus or wait for someone picking them up.

Want to give a word of encouragement or a reminder?  TicklerTags has those too!  You can let your child know "I Love You", "Good Luck on your test today" , or even "Dont forget to call".  I love these tags...I chose one that says"You Can Do It" and has a cartoon figure playing tug of war.  My son loves it!

I would definitely recommend these as they are great for the child's busy schedules, there is less confusion and can be a great mood booster too!  The price is great too!  Each premade tag is just $1.50 and the carabiner is just $2.50, and you can have a customized tag made for just $5.00.  The tags are a sturdy, waterproof plastic tag that seems like it will last a long time!  I think they are well worth the money!  Currently TicklerTags also has free shipping now thru March 31st!  So go get your order in now!

Mamavation follow along

>

So is this your gym or you?  I hope not...If you need some all year long support to keep you motivated check out Mamavation!  Its a great sistahood that will keep you wanting to stick with it.

Last week wasnt really great for me...I posted on Friday that I would be doing better though and I have for the most part.  I did eat some fast food again last night as we needed to stop to get the kids dinner while we were out.  Otherwise I did good over the weekend and managed to lose the 3lbs as quickly as I had gained them.  So overall I am at the same weight as last Monday!  So I am calling that a success because I am back with it, and WILL continue to exercise and eat healthy!  I will continue with my fresh start!

Challenges:  I want to continue to get up and moving right away in the morning!  I also want to avoid unhealthy snacks and overeating.  I am seriously thinking of applying for mamavation this time around.  I think this last half of losing weight is so much harder than the first half and could really use some "pushing" to get me going more!  I gotta bump up everything so I am not hitting those plateaus.

Hopefully this week will have less commotion and running around, and more energy actual running!

Also want to send out a big "Congratulations" to @LisaSamples & @Frugalfemina  for a great job during their Mamavation campaign!!!  They did such a great job getting fit and healthy!!!  Keep up all the hard work ladies.  You were great role models for us all!

Not Me Monday....Its Monday? No not at my house

>

So I am typically an early morning riser...yeah who slept almost until the alarm clock this morning...no not me!  I just jumped right out of bed ready to face the day.....yeah right!

Long weekend!  Cortnie got out of the hospital Friday, and of course who gets a phone call about her other kid...no not me!  Kennedy had seizure at school, but luckily was ok when I got there.  Then of course the action doesnt end.  Cortnie had more seizures on Saturday, so back to ER again.  She came home that night...stinking seizures suck!  Especially when our kids do not have typical seizures so everything is so confusing.

I was so busy with all the kids this weekend that of course I will be cleaning a bunch today....So really it is not me that is sitting on my butt!  It is not my house with laundry on the coffee table, toys all over the bedroom and dishes to be done.

We did end the weekend on a fun note.  Zach got to go see YoGabbaGabba which he loved!

Have a safe St. Patricks Day... Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving!

>

Are you headed out with friends after work this Wednesday to celebrate the holiday? No, Well when you and your family are on the road headed to choir practice, a t-ball game, or coming home from school, you may be sharing the road with those returning from a fun St. Patricks Day event. Its time to spread the word about the dangers of buzzed driving and to remind people that Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving, and the best way to stay safe is to plan ahead.

Lets remind everyone about the importance of remembering to:
· Designate a sober driver before you leave for your event.
· Be ready to take alternate transportation such as a bus or taxi. Have the phone number of a taxi service stored in your phone before you leave for the party.

Even if you will not be celebrating this St. Patricks Day, keep in mind that in 2008, 1,179 people in other vehicles were killed in crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers. And for those who dont plan on over-indulging?a buzzed driving crash looks the same as a drunk driving crash.

Global Influence is working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Ad Council as they continue their efforts with the Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving PSA campaign. Buzzed drivers drink and drive, but do not consider themselves a hazard on the roadway because they have had only a few drinks. The campaign hopes to educate people that consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

We need your help in keeping the roads safe for everyone this St. Patricks Day by spreading the word that buzzed driving IS drunk driving.

To learn more about the impact buzzed driving can have on a life, please watch this important video about the financial and personal repercussions of getting a DUI: http://buzzeddriving.adcouncil.org/sign.php#video

Remember: Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving. Plan ahead and ask your loved ones to do the same.

Fitness Friday: Starting Fresh

>

Monday I had said I was going to get moving and put the fork down...yeah well I have been terrible and have actually gained weight in just those four days!  So today I got up early with a great attitude and am starting fresh!  I am going to try to do more fresh foods and have a fresh attitude.  I am going to feel great getting some new fresh workouts in.  I think I am going to start the 6 week challenge with my EA sports active more workouts.

I have had issues with waking up early and just tossing and turning in bed...so I decided this morning that I might as well get up and get moving.  This totally helped me feel like I am getting a fresh start to the morning.  I think I am going to try to do this every morning.  I dont need to be up until 6:30am but I typically am awake by 5am...so I figure if I get up  when I wake up maybe I will feel more energized by working out and eating a healthy breakfast.

So I am making a committment right here right now....No more fast food, no more drinking soda, no more late night snacks, no more sitting on my butt, no more EXCUSES!  I used the excuses of being on the road/gone a lot this week to eat crappy, when I could have easily grabbed some fresh fruits and veggies and packed a healthy sandwich instead of stopping and grabbing greasy food.  So the only fast food allowed in my hands will be subway.  I was so bad I even made fries at home and burgers last night...I was on a roll...and if I keep that up you will see me rolling around with my rolly polly body...so enough is enough!

Exergen-TemporalScanner

>

Giveaway closed.
Congratulations Sue E!

During times your child is sick you do not want to add the invasive and sometimes timely process of taking your childs temperature to his or her already uncomfortable situation.  There is a more simple way......The Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer!

The Exergen TemporalScanner infrard thermometer, which reads a temperature in just two seconds, is a more gentle way to take your childs temperature.  It gauges body temperature in two seconds by capturing the naturally emitted heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead and is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery.  With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system, the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from colling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature vs. the ear thermometer.  The ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistant, thus creating varied reading.  I tossed out my ear thermometer because it always had a different reading, at times with more than 3 degrees difference within a matter of minutes.  I never got an accurate reading.  Having children with special needs means that it is not an easy job typically to take a temperature.  Neither of my children will/can hold a thermometer in their mouths.  I typically take my childrens temperatures under their arm, which again is not as accurate of a reading and takes a long time.

Tests show that the Exergen TemporalScanner is accurate to within +0.2degrees F and a much more accurate reading than taking the temperature any other way.    I have used this several times over the past week with my whole family to try it out.  We have all been healthy so I have not been able to use it during a sickness yet.  For purposes of the review I have used it over and over to test the accuracy.  The TemporalScanner measures core body temperatures which is about 1degree F higher than oral temperatures.  I found this to be quite accurate while using it on my family.  I used it on  few times on each person on a few different occassions to see just how accurate it was.  Each time it would be within 0.5 degrees F for each person.  For my children their temperature usually read within the high 98 to low 99.  For myself and my husband it would read between 99-100.

I found taking our temperatures this way was not only easy but comfortable.  My son actually loved it and has pretty much pulled it out every single day to test it!  To use the TemporalScanner you simple place the thermometer over the center of the forehead, press and hold the scan button, and lightly slide the thermometer to either side to the hairline.  This takes 2-3 seconds and you will hear a beeping sound and a red light will flash to indicate that a measurement is taking place.  You then release the scan button, remove the thermometer from the forehead and read the display to see what the temperature reads.  This was very simple!

In cases where perspiration is present on the forehead you can also take the temperature on the back of the neck behind the ear lobe.  This is not as accurate, but found if you test yourself or children you can find the spot that reads the most accurate for future reference.  I actually recommend testing it out a few times both ways to get a good feel for it and see where your childs baseline temp reads so then you will feel more comfortable during a time of sickness.

I would definitely recommend this as an accurate, safer thermometer and a cost effective thermometer.  The  Exergen TemporalScanner is better for the environment, using infrared sensor technology so it contains no mercury(like tradition glass bulb thermometers).  This thermometer also never needs any additional purchases, unlike tympanic(ear)thermometers, or even the traditional thermometers that require a clean pstic probe cover for each new use.

The Exergen TemporalScanner has a manufacturers suggested retail price between  $30-$50.  Click here to download a $5 manufactures rebate form on your purchase of Exergen-TemporalScanner.
