#Mamavation Monday~ New Mommy Makeover wk#5

>
This weeks Mamavation carnival question: How do you encourage your children to contribute to your family’s healthy lifestyle?

My son loves being active.  He has always been my cheerleader when working out and loves to join in.  Actually he only plays the active games on the Wii!  The only way I really encourage him is by letting him join in or finding other "active" ways for him to play.   I also think I encourage my stepdaughters to be healthier.  They are fairly thin, but I try to encourage them to be active and drink water.  I am always telling them they need to drink more water!  We love to play Wii games together and one of my stepdaughters really loves to do my exercise dvds with or without me.  She tries to encourage me to get up and get moving!  Last spring we started taking walks every time they were over and I am looking forward to that.  It is nice getting all the kids out together and being active.

This week I started finished up phase 1 of New Mommy Makeover and started phase 2.  WOW!!!  These exercises have definitely stepped up and make me sweat!  I like that Colleen Riddel still has the workouts set up quite the same, by doing 1 set, followed by an exercise to raise your heart rate then another set...then repeats this with a different set of exercises.  This time we have been doing 1 arm type workout, 1 leg type workout in each set then at the very end(after all the sets) we do a few ab workouts.  I still like how she focuses on the muscles and breathing, and even though I am sweating more I still do not feel overwhelmed.

Speaking of kids above....When Corie is over she is normally doing these exercises with me! Even skinny active her says she likes the workouts.  Zach loves them.  He always has to have his own weights and when he sees the workouts he says "its you" when he sees the tv.  Its cute!  It is things like these that keep me motivated.  Although Zach likes to steal my water during water breaks too lol!

Thursday I took my measurements to see if I have made any progress with this program.  I have made progress even though I would have liked to have done better.  I still need to really really work on my eating, as that is what is holding me back!  The exercises are great!  I have lost 2 inches in my stomach area.  I measured in three different areas too figuring the lower stomach might just be my uterus going back to normal, but I have lost two inches even in my upper abs!  I have also lost 4-5 pounds in the 4 weeks!  I was hoping for more, but again I am blaming it on my eating.  I am going to try a lot harder this month and hopefully will see double the results next month!

Dislosure:  Part of this post is sponsored by Mamavation and I’m writing this to be entered into a giveaway.  This is also sponsored by New Mommy Makeover, in which I received the dvd's for free to review.  These are my personal opinions.

Pirose for fashion. Versatile creations from dressing up to covering up.

>
Are you looking for an accessory that can go from day to night, casual to dressy?  Pirose is a one of a kind wrap that you can wear multiple ways to create endless fashion designs.

The Pirose comes in three different sizes.  For any of the sizes you can find ways to wear this or even create your own ways to wear it to design a fashion you like.  This makes it easy to wear with so many different types of clothing.  You can go from wearing it simply with a tank or add an elegant touch to an evening dress.

This is the color/print I received.  I love it.  It matches with so many things.  I can see wearing it with my cream tank, to my black dress.  Right now I am not all that comfortable in pictures as I need to lose quite a bit of pregnancy weight, but I think this will be a nice item to keep with me this spring and summer.  It will be a nice way to cover my shoulders when I am wearing a tank top and even cover the baby on those bright sunny days.  Although this is not a complete coverage, it does help with some sun coverage.

I think this would be great to keep tied around your purse or diaper bag for a quick cover for yourself or your baby.  It is so light and versatile you can bring it anywhere.  Another nice thing about it is it doesnt seem to wrinkle.  I have thrown it in the carry bag it comes with and taken it back out and there are no wrinkles at all.  What woman doesnt like an accessory that looks just as great every time you take it out.  This makes it nice so that you can tie it or wrap it different ways through out the day and there is no need to press it.

The Pirose sells for $35 and you can find more information or purchase by visiting http://www.renorose.com/

Teaching your child how to relax when angry ~ "Angry Octopus" by Lori Lite

>
While doing some web hopping last week I came upon some books that looked like great resources for helping children learn how to relax.  I was really interested in the book "Angry Octopus" by Lori Lite.

An Anger Management Story
introducing active progressive muscular relaxation and deep breathing
by Lori Lite • Illustrated by Max Stasuyk

“Progressive muscular relaxation” is a stress and anger management technique focusing awareness on various muscle groups to create a complete resting of the mind and body. Muscular relaxation can lower stress and anxiety levels.  In the story Angry Octopus your child can relate to the angry octopus and learn how to calm down using the progressive muscular relaxation and deep breathing.

I received the ebook of the Angry Octopus and couldnt wait to share it with Zach.  Zach has mild autism and has issues at times with anxiety and anger.  He tends to throw himself backwards or bang his head when he gets angry or frustrated.  So you can see why I thought this would be a good book for him.  He really took to it too!  While I read the story out loud to him, he laid on the floor and did all the muscle movements and deep breathing that the octopus does in the story.  It was great seeing him learn how to do these.  It really gives us something to work on when he is angry or upset.
I already know which book I would like to get next.....  Affirmation Weaver.  Zach's famous phrase right now is "I can't do it"....Listening to an excerpt of this story makes me think that this would be perfect for helping Zach believe in himself.  Zach loves books on tape/cd, so I am thinking of getting the Indigo Oceans Dreams CD.  This cd has Affirmation Weaver, Angry Octopus plus two other stories to help teach children ages 6-12  the relaxation techniques of breathing, visualizations, muscular relaxation and affirmations.  I think this would be perfect for Zach!

The prices for the books and cds really are great too!  You can purchase Angry Octopus for $14.95 or the ebook download for $6.95.  You can get Indigo Oceans Dreams CD for $15.95 or the mp3 download for just $7.95  Typically anything that has to do with special needs or behavior modification is rediculously expensive, so to find books/cds with these techiniques at this price is just great!  These are prices for regular storybooks....if not cheaper than some storybooks!  If you have a child with any anger or anxiety I definitely recommend this book!

You can find more information on these books, cd's, and more by visiting  http://www.stressfreekids.com/
They also offer items for teens and adults.

disclosure:  I received Angry Octopus ebook for free to review.  These are my personal opinions.

Zippies...pals that hang around (review and giveaway)

>
Giveaway clsosed
Congrats Gianna!

Are you looking for a fun and unique way for your child to identify his/her items?  You have to check out the fun new Zippies!  Zippies are "pals that hang around" and let your child recognize his stuff.  They are unique in that they can attach to many different items, especially water bottles!  This is a great way during cold and flu season to keep your child safe from picking up other peoples germs by grabbing the wrong waterbottle.

Zippies have a unique fastener that will slide over the tops to many sizes of waterbottles and then close snuggly to stay on.  They are easily recognizable by their fun character faces, and have a spot on the back that you can write your childs name, number or medical info if needed.

They make ID tags fun and even collectable!  Right now Zippies come in 10 fun designs.  Each design is a face (many that look like animals) with quirky smiles.  Let your child collect them one or all of them.

I am sure you can find many ways to use them so that your child will want then all!  Right now each of my kids have one for their waterbottles.  I like that the fasteners can attach like keychains.  I told my stepdaughters to attach them to their backpacks with the keychain fastener, but to keep the waterbottle fastener on it still.  That way they can take it off their backpack and attach to their waterbottles during gym or practice.  My son has a couple floating around.  We have one on his backpack for a fun way to identify it at school.  He also has one for his waterbottle that he has.  I also have kept a few in my kitchen cupboards so when his friends are over we can attach them to their drink bottles, so each child knows which is theirs.  I even have one on my keychain, just incase I lose my keys it has my name and number so hopefully they are returned to me.

As for quality....Zippies are very well made.  The characters and the fasteners are both sturdy and hold up well no matter where they are hanging!  I think they are such a fun way to identify your stuff and definitely look forward to seeing some new character series soon!  With Easter around the corner, these sure would be cute in your child's Easter basket.

You can purchase Zippies by going to Zippiesfun.com

Tshirtprinting.net review

>

I recently got to try out a tshirt from tshirtprinting.net. Tshirtprinting.net offers custom screen printing on many types of clothing.  They would be great for your company or team's  logo.   They sent me a Gildan brand white tshirt with their promotional logo printed on it to check out the quality.  The tshirt itself was good quality.  It is heavy enough to hold up to everday wear and tear.  I have seen so many printed tshirts that end up worn looking after just a couple washes.  This one has held up well.

The screen print is great.  It has bright colors and the design and text is very clear.  I have washed it a couple times so far and it looks brand new.  It has shown no signs of wear yet!   Based on the tshirt I received I would recommend them if you are looking for custom screen printing.

Are you like your parents?

>
Today I was checking out SocialMoms and their daily bloggin prompt.  I thought it was a great question today and thought I would share my thoughts.

Today's question:
Have you grown up to be like your parents? In what ways? Do you strive to be like them or do you do everything you can not to be like them?

I would say I am quite a bit like my parents, each of them.

I think I am like my mother in the way that she is supportive of other people...although I strive to be even more open like she is.  She seems to be able to communicate more easily with people than I can.  Sometimes I can open up easily, yet for those that I am close to I sometimes close up.  My mother seems to be able to open up and talk to most people, family or strangers very easily.  I am more like my father in this.....quiet and kind of shy.  We keep our emotions bottled up....until something happens and then the top of the bottle pops off and watch out.  I have more of my fathers temperment.

Both my parents are hard workers, and yes I strive to be like them.  Although I am a stay at home Mom I try to keep busy.  I am like my mother in that I try to keep my house tidy.  I would have never thought I would be like that.  It used to bug the crap out of me as a child that she always wanted us to do the cleaning, and would make us pick up so often....My room was always a mess.  Now it drives me nuts.  My husband is pretty much a slob and I am always cleaning up something.  He laughs at me when he catches me staring at a rug that isnt straight.  I am so much like my mother in that I hate seeing things sitting around.  Unfortunately I cant always stay on top of everything though.  I wish I had my husband trained like my mother does my father lol!

One way I really would like to be more like my mother is religiously.  She raised us going to church and learning about God.  I have kind of let that go.  I believe in God, but havent been very good about going to church or even speaking about God that much.  Again I guess I am more like my father in his quietness and not necessarily knowing what to say.  It has been hard for me, married to someone who really isnt religious, and trying to go to church on my own with two children.  Sometimes I just really dont know how to teach my children seeing they both have special needs.  Maybe it is my own fears seeing the church where I live now is soooo much larger than where I grew up.  It just doesnt have the same feel.  I like the closeness of the small church.  My mother goes to church even when she is here and I bet she would be more involved.  Maybe someday I will be more like her.

I am sure there are many more ways I am like my parents...and many ways I am not like my parents...but one thing I can say is there really isnt anything about either of them that makes me strive to not be anything like them!

#Mamavation Monday.... New Mommy Makeover wk#4

>
Exercise gets you no where if you are not eating right!  I gotta keep telling myself this, as I actually gained a pound this week.  I exercised quite a bit this week, but I ate like crap.

This week is my last week doing New Mommy Makeover Phase 1 dvd.  I am going to reweigh myself Thursday and take my measurements to see how I did with the four weeks of phase 1.  I am then moving on to the New Mommy Makeover Phase 2 dvd.  I love the workouts on the New Mommy Makeoever as they are cardio and strengthening, yet they do not kill me!  I hate putting in a dvd and feeling overwhelmed at how fast they are moving.  I love that the New Mommy Makeover workouts raise your heart rate without making you do all the exercises like they are in  fast forward.  I am looking forward to seeing what the next step is in the phase 2 dvd.

This past week I have also done a couple new things too.  I really like to switch my workouts around a lot, and do many different things.  I cant leave my Wii out either.  I owe a lot to my Wii as it was the main reason I lost over 50 pounds before being pregnant.  I have mentioned that one of my favorite games is Golds Gym Cardio Boxing, well now I have another great one to add to it, Gold Gym Cardio Dance.  It is a lot of fun and really makes you sweat!  I just got it at the end of the week.  Thursday I used it for about an hour and it said I burned 300 calories.  Friday my stepdaughter and I played it in two player mode and had fun.  I am going to play around more this week and then post a  review of it on my other blog Mii and My Wii family.

This week I also tried some pilates, using the Get Ready for Pilates dvd.  I was thinking this would be a little easier than it was for a beginners dvd, but it is teaching me how to do the pilates moves.  I definitely need some work on my flexibility!  This week I am going to try at least one day of doing the next dvd , Intermediate Pilates.  I am not sure if I am ready for it, but I want to see if I learned enough with the beginners dvd.  I know I have a lot to work on, as I am doing a couple of the moves modified, but I want to check it out.  I also have a giveaway for the beginners dvd which you can enter for by clicking here.

If this was not enough exercise this week...I decided Saturday to stack wood all on my own.  I am so sore!  It took me between 3-4 hours broken up.  I did about an hour, then stopped for lunch.  Went back out for about 3 more hours only taking about a 15 minute break.  All the wood was in a pile in our driveway.  I had to pick up the wood, walk up a couple steps or walk up a little hill to stack the wood against our garage.  My calf muslces are so sore still today.

So you see I worked out a lot, but I gained!  So I guess I need to get with the nutrition!  If you listen to the ad on the New Mommy Makeover site she says it right there, "No matter how much you exercise you cant outwork a bad diet".  So I am going to get out that nutritional guide and get reading it.  I started it, and then got busy.  Now I know I need to get focused!  The first couple weeks exercising I was able to still eat junky, yet still lost.  Obviously that only works for so long and you gotta own up to what you are eating.  I need to remember to not grab the fast food just because I am out and running short on time.  I also gotta remember that soda really doesnt give me the energy I think it will when I am getting tired.  I was running a couple appointments this week and actually had fast food three times....geez no wonder I gained.  It was stupid but I actually thought maybe I would be ok because I was exercising.  NOT!  So this week I am gonna move it, and lose it.  I am gonna lose the junk food and fast food!  I need to do some meal planning, cause lately I just havent known what to cook. I gotta follow you sistas that plan out your meals.  Looks like I better watch tonights Mamavation tv show and see what Alysa Bajenaru says about our diets.

This week’s Mamavation blogging carnival is sponsored by Fit Studio. One blogging carnival participant will receive a Fitness Basket with Weider PowerSwitch Adjustable 25 lb. Hand Weight, 65 cm Fitness Ball, and Sportline Elite Fitness Pedometer.. Answer the following question in your blog post and link back to the Fit Studio website.

Question: What motivates you to get going and what keeps you going?

Well for me what motivates me is having fun things to do.  When I am feeling all out of breath and out of shape doing family activities it motivates me to work harder.  What keeps me going is seeing the results...or even seeing them slip backwards like this week.  I know I can do it...I did it in the past...I can do it again!  I just gotta remember to keep having fun doing it.  I know it has to burn some and I have to sweat, but I gotta keep it fun.

disclosure:  I received the New Mommy Makeover dvds from Colleen Riddel for free.  I received the Pilates dvds from Kathi Casey for free.  I received these for free to review and give my thoughts on these programs.  This post is also sponsored by Sears FitStudio and am writing this post to be entered into a giveaway hosted by Mamavation and sponsored by Sears.  I purchased the Golds Gym Cardio Dance game on my own, and was not compensated in any way for posting about that.  This post is all about my personal experience with the products, and are my personal opinions.

Get Ready For Pilates!® review and giveaway

>
giveaway closed.
Congratulations Shellie & Brutus

You don't think you are ready to try Pilates.  I didn't either, until I saw Kathi Casey's dvd Get Ready For Pilates!®.  This Pilates dvd is great for those not too familiar with Pilates like myself.  I have always heard about Pilates but really did not know how to do it.  I always thought it was a program you had to do at the gym with expensive equipment.  Using this beginners dvd you learn it is something most can do right at home.

Get Ready For Pilates!® is great to teach you many Pilates exercises and shows you how to do them with proper form and breathing.  This dvd is 60 minutes and you will feel your body getting a nice stretch and a nice burn from the strengthening moves.  Kathi teaches you exercises that strengthen your core, arms, and legs.  She really focuses on each step of the exercise and how you can modify that movement if you can not fully complete it, or do it so you do not injure yourself.  She also really focuses on the breathing.

I really enjoyed it.  At first I thought 60 minutes was forever to be working out.  I like doing shorter workouts, but I really didnt even notice that it was that long.  She starts out with a nice warm up and gives you tips on how you will be moving.  The exercises she teaches in this beginners dvd are easy enough that I think most people can do them, yet hard enough that you definitely feel them. So far I have used the dvd twice and on the next morning both times I felt it in my upper abs.  I really feel the burn during the exercises doing the leg exercises.

I like how she goes through the moves pretty much step by step.  They are easy to follow because she does this and you move through them so focused.  She also gives you some modifications on some.  This was good because some felt too hard to do, but with the modifications I was able to do them.  Some of these modifications were simply just to bend the legs instead of holding them straight or hold under the knees instead of around them.  They were specific modifications to specific exercises and they really helped to make them possible.  If you are new to Pilates I definitely recommend checking out this dvd.  I also received the next dvds Intermediate and Advanced Pilates.  These are shorter more intense workouts.  I will be checking them out as I feel I am ready.  If you follow my blog regularly then I am sure you will see how I am doing with this series by checking out my Mamavation Monday posts.

You can purchase Get Ready For Pilates!®  dvd for $19.99 on Kathi Casey's site http://www.healthyboomerbody.com/

Instantpeel Natural Exfoliant review

>

"The Instantpeel Natural Exfoliant is one of the most exciting, powerful yet gentle products on the market that is polluted with goods that promise beauty heaven, but deliver just a big price tag. This peel sticks to its promises, for a fraction of the money one would spend in a beauty salon. Instantpeel is easy to use while taking a shower. it is amazing how smoothly dead skin peels off without irritating healthy skin layers. After the short treatment, the skin feels soft and silky with a radiant complexion. I highly recommend Instantpeel to every one who desires younger and healthier looking facial skin."
Sylvia Janetski, MD
I recently had the pleasure to try out the Instantpeel natural exfoliant and I absolutely love it!  First thing I love is that you use it right in the shower.  It is so simple to use by just opening the packet, putting a small amount on and rubbing it in to exfoliate.  You then rinse that spot off, and repeat the process in the next area.  When you get out of the shower you will see and feel that your face is soft and silky!  I could not get over just how soft my skin felt after using this just once!  Although I did need to use moisturizer, as my skin still had dry skin after getting out, my skin felt much softer.  I couldnt stop feeling my cheek after using it!  It also had much more of a glow to it than it normally does.  I used it on my face and shoulders.  I think this would be great to be using during the summer or when you are wearing spaghetti strap dresses or sleeveless tops.  So nice to have nice soft shoulders!  I also loved that it wasnt rough on my skin.  I did not feel any scratchiness like some exfoliants have, and it did not have any chemicals burning my skin either!  This is a total plus.  I felt like this was a product that I would trust to use on my daughters sensitive skin.

I wish I could afford to keep using the InstantPeel.  I think it is kind of pricey for my budget ($50 for 6 packets). I really do not buy too many high end facial products though.   I could see purchasing it every once in a while to treat myself, as it is so nice!

You can purchase InstantPeel at many high end boutiques and drug stores or you can visit http://www.earthen-products.com/

oransi Ionic air purifier for your refrigerator (review and giveaway)

>
Giveaway closed.
Congratulations Mary!

Are you finding that the food in your fridge is spoiling before you even get to use them?  Trying to be healthier I have been buying a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables to eat.  I hate running to the grocery store a couple times a week just to have fresh ones.  I hate it even more when I reach in the drawer and find that it has spoiled already!

I then had the opportunity to try the oransi Ionic air purifier.....for my fridge!  I know we have tried putting baking soda in the fridge or freezer to help keep it smelling fresh, but how about actually keeping your food fresh.  The oransi air purifier not only eliminates food odors in your fridge but it also kills bacteria, prevents mildew, and reduces food spoilage.

The oransi Ionic Air Purifier sterilizes your fridge with its built in micro CPU, which controls the operation cycle.  It will run for about 90 days on two AA batteries.  When you first turn it on it will run for 30 minutes continuously and then for 5 minutes every two hours.  It has a one touch operation and a LED light that will blink every 2-3 seconds while it is running, or blink constantly to indicate that it is time to replace the batteries.

The oransi air purifier is so simple to use.  I just set it up and leave it in my fridge.  I keep mine on the shelf that is pretty much right in the middle, above the vegetable drawers.  It is pretty small too, so it really doesnt take up much room.  It probably takes up about the amount of space as a can of soda.  I think it works great.  Sometimes when you have air purifiers in the room you wonder if they are really doing anything or not.  I am pretty positive this is working good.  I have not smelled any odors in my fridge since starting to use the air purifier.  I also have noticed that my vegetables are lasting longer, and not spoiling so quickly.  You can also use this air purifier in your closet if you need some added freshness.  It would probably be nice in a closet where you keep your shoes.

The oransi fridge air purifier is actually on sale now for $29, that is a $10 savings!  They are available only online at http://www.oransi.com/ionic_air_purifiers_s/6.htm

Giveaway:
One lucky reader can win one!  To enter visit this page http://www.oransi.com/why_ionic_fridge_s/27.htm  and tell me what your favorite benefit of the fridge air purifier would be for you.

Cinnamon Burst Cheerios (giveaway)

>
Giveaway closed.
Congratulations Soccor_NSA!

I have been a big fan of Cheerios for a long long time.  I love their honey nut and multi grain flavors.  Now they have a great new flavor added to their line up, Cinnamon Burst Cheerios!  Made with real cinnamon, the newest edition to the Cheerios line-up allows you to provide your family with a delicious and nutritious breakfast that contains 20% of the Daily Value of fiber (or 5g per serving), has 9g of sugar, is low in fat, saturated fat free and naturally cholesterol free. Cinnamon Burst Cheerios cereal also provides at least 8g of whole grain per serving; at least 48g recommended daily. A true crowd pleaser, Cinnamon Burst Cheerios cereal is sure to kick-start any morning!

I am so happy Cheerios has made another great flavor to add to our breakfast routine.  If anyone who reads this blog regularly can tell I LOVE CEREAL!  You will almost always see a box of some flavor Cheerios in my cupboard!  Right now I actually have three different flavors as well as a couple other brands.  Yep that is right I typically have 4-6 boxes of cereal open in my cupboard.  Dont worry they do not go stale as I love them so much.  I love cereals like Cheerios that I can use as snacks for my family too.  They make such great finger foods!  Having a baby, I just know Cheerios will be a favorite around here.

I love the healthy line up, and the Cinnamon Burst Cheerios will be great having real cinnamon.  One thing I have learned trying to eat healthier is that adding spices, like cinnamon to your diet is a great way to get flavor with out packing on the calories.  Cinnamon also is a good antioxidant.

We received a  Cinnamon Burst Cheerios cereal gift pack that included a box of Cinnamon Burst Cheerios cereal for me to try, family 4-pack of cereal bowls, travel cereal chiller and a cinnamon scented candle. This was such a great set.  The Cinnamon Burst Cheerios have great flavor and I really like them.  I will be buying these quite often.  I was happy to have some new bowls too.  I absolutely love the travel cereal chiller.  I have actually used the ice ring for other things like adding to a punch bowl.  I also love that besides cereal you can use this bowl for so many other items that you want to keep cool, and seperated.  I have used it for veggies and dip or salad and dressing.  The candle smells great too!

Giveaway:
One lucky reader can win this set also!  To enter:  Tell me what your favorite breakfast item is.

#Mamavation Monday... Week #3 New Mommy Makeover

>
This has been an off week again.  Last week I had Zach getting over being sick, and Kennedy getting sick.  This week I got sick.  All of a sudden Wednesday evening my throat started getting dry and I felt really warm, although I really wasnt running a fever.  Thursday I felt like crap.  My head hurt all day, I had absolutely no energy and my throat was dry and sore.  I even went to bed for three hour that afternoon!  Friday I felt better energy wise, but my throat has still been a dry scratchy soreness.  I did exercise, but not as much as I wanted to.  I did manage to lose almost 2 pounds this week, but would like to see better results next week. I am sure it is all from having a good weekend, now I gotta get the week days going too.

Monday is my off days of exercising, which was good as I was busy busy.  I did do about 20 minutes of snow shovelling to try and get someone unstuck from our driveway.  Tuesday I did the New Mommy Makeover phase 1 dvd.  Wednesday I was pretty busy again, and then when I was home to exercise is when I started to feel sick.  Then Thursday was a "no way was I exercising" day.  So luckily feeling more energized Friday I got back into it by doing the New Mommy Makeover dvd again.  I also did the third workout on Sunday.  Saturday I did the Wii fit hula hooping, and then the EAsports Active more workouts boxing and step aerobics which totalled 30 minutes.  I found myself thinking "keep your mind on the muscles" while doing the Wii games.  This is one of the things I really really like about the New Mommy Makeover.  I love the catchy phrases she uses to keep you focused on what you are doing.  This really helps especially with proper form.  Another phrase I have been picking up on doing the dvd is "heavy in the heal".  This has really helped with proper form doing squats and lunges, and has kept my knees from hurting doing these.  In the past I never really knew that you should focus on the pushing through the heals doing these exercises.  So another big thumbs up for Colleen Riddel, New Mommy Makeover.

This week my food was up and down too.  I had some really good days like Saturday and Sunday.  Those days I had nice healthy meals and healthy snacks.  Then there were a couple days where I snacked late at night.  I had pizza one night too...but I do have to say I was good the next day and did not eat the left overs like I normally do.

So this week I am really going to try to focus on eating better.  No snacks after 8pm, and healthy snacks.  I am hoping this will help me start feeling better and more energized too.
For exercise I am going to be doing another week of the New Mommy Makeover phase 1 dvd on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  On my off days this week I am going to try a new dvd called Get Ready for Pilates by Kathi Casey.  I have never really done pilates and thought this beginner dvd would be a good introduction.  It says it is great for beginners.  Will let you know how it goes, and watch for a giveaway of this dvd too.

disclosure:  I received the dvds mentioned for free from the respective trainers to review.  These are my personal opinions of both.

New rules for giveaways listed here (starting today)

>
1. I am now only allowing ONE person per household or IP address to enter each giveaway.  I think this will be more fair for all entrants, and fair to the product that I am representing.  I want them to get a true count of who is interested in their product.

2. You can only win one giveaway within a 30 day period.  Meaning:  If you win a giveaway on Jan. 1 then you can not win again until Feb. 1

3. In many cases the same product is offered for giveaway by multiple blog.  In these situations you may enter for that prize on all blogs.  Some sponsors will only mail out one prize per person, whether you won from mulitple blogs.  This will either be stated in my giveaway disclosure or it will be up to the discretion of the company who is providing the prizes.  If they contact me saying you have already won from another blog then I may choose another winner.

Explanation of Entering giveaways here:
~You must first do what I have asked when it says "to enter", then the "extra" comments will count.  If you do not do this, then the extra comments do not count.  Leaving generic comments like "great giveaway" do not count.
~When it says a comment is worth more than one entry, please leave a seperate comment for each one.
For example:  Blogging about giveaway (3 entries)

entry 1:  blogged #1 and link where you blogged
                      entry 2: blogged #2
                      entry 3: blogged #3

~Also please make sure you either leave a valid email address, or that your email is visible in your profile.  I have had many entries that just enter under profile but there is no email listed under that profile.

~Winners are notified by email that they won.  Typically you do not have a specific time frame to reply back, but occassionally some giveaways are time sensitive and I will state in that giveaway that you may only have a specific amount of time to reply back.  I will try to email the winner twice.  If I do not get a reply after the second attempt then I will either redraw for a new winner, donate the prize, or save the prize for a later giveaway.

~Winners are drawn randomly and backed up by content.  You must do the first required entry for all extra entries to be valid.

Any other questions entering giveaways you can contact me at colleenmouse@gmail.com

If you win a giveaway:
Please allow 6-8 weeks for product to arrive.
If you have not received your prize please email me to let me know.  I will do my best to get the sponsor to send you  your prize.  Occassionally the sponsors do not send out the prizes.  In these situations I am not held responsible for providing that prize.

BornFree bottles

>
Many parents want to know they are offering their baby the best when bottle feeding.  Many bottles can attribute to babies being gassy and uncomfortable, and even getting ear infections.

"When a child uses a typical feeding bottle, lack of ventilation or inadequate ventilation causes a vacuum to form, and this can cause problems inside the ear." (Craig Brown, MD)
.

The free flow silicone air valve incorporated into the BornFree® Venting System breathes together with your feeding baby and starts a steady flow of liquid only when your baby suckles, just like breastfeeding.

The BornFree® Venting System simple two part venting system is specially designed to reduce the vacuum build-up inside bottles that often can lead to gas, spit-up and painful colic in newborns.

The vent allows a continuous free flow of air into the nipple while the baby is feeding.  The low pressure inside BornFree® bottle and cups is also medically acknowledged to reduce the risk of ear infections in babies and toddlers.

I have been using the Born Free 5oz bottles with my baby. She seems quite comfortable using the Born Free bottles. I actually now only use bottles that offer venting systems, as I have seen how easily nipples on traditional bottles collapse.  Using these bottles I have seen little spit up compared to my older kids that used traditional bottles.  Actually both my other kids had a lot of issues with newborn ear infections and either reflux or colic.  I had even switched formula to help.  Lauren who is 8 weeks today, has had little spit up and has remained on the same formula from birth.  Using Born Free bottles leave me feeling less guilty for not breast feeding.

The nipples on the Born Free bottles are really soft silicone.  While drinking from these she coughs less than she does with any other bottles.  She takes to these bottles the best!  The shape of the nipple seems very natural.

The bottles are very easy to put together, and to take apart.  This makes cleaning easy, and you know you are getting all of the parts sterilized.  The wide mouth of the bottle makes it easy to clean even if you do not have a bottle brush.  It is nice to know that I am also using a safe bottle.  The BornFree bottle is 100% free of Bisphenol-A, Phthalates and PVC!

We use liquid formula, so mixing is easy.  The only thing I would recommend is if you use powder formula is to stir the bottle before putting the bottle together.  You can not shake the BornFree bottles up and down like most people do to mix formula.  They recommend using a twisting motion to mix.  I would think shaking the bottle too much could make the venting system come apart some.

The BornFree bottles and cups are interchangeable.  You can find BornFree products in these retailers:  Babies R Us, Target, Buy Buy Baby, Whole Foods market, Diapers.com and CVS pharmacies.

For more information on BornFree feeding products you can visit http://www.newbornfree.com/

disclosure:  I received free bottles to review.  These are my personal opinions.

I Love a tubie

>
Can you even *see that she is tube fed?
(*this is a hint)

We do not always have to be serious....even tube fed kiddos can have fun!

Sound asleep while eating....can your child do that?

She can still go to school while her tube feeding is going.
You can barely tell it is there huh?

For those wondering...this is what her tube feeding site looks like.
This is a mic-key button that we then just hook up the tube to.

Its such a normal thing here, that even Zach wants to get tube fed!

Feeding Tube Awareness Week

>
To me tube feeding is such a norm here that I forget to even mention it most of the time.  I noticed that this week is feeding tube awareness week thanks to Nicky over at My Crazy Normal Life, who has two tubie  and mito kiddos of her own.  It led me to the site Feeding Tube Awareness, where you can find informations and support for tube feedings.  Another place I have visitted to get a lot of support when I have needed it, is Parent-2-Parent forum

Why does your child have a feeding tube?

Kennedy actually was tube fed for a very short time after she was born, but that was mostly just to get her to tolerate bottle feedings as a preemie.  As she got older and we her physical disability got more noticeable she wasnt able to take in as much calories as most kids her age.  She was just so shaky that it took a long time for her to eat.  She also burned off so many calories because with her tremors her body was in constant motion.  She just did not gain weight like she should.

So after trying different things we decided to have her get a gtube when she was around three years old.  This was a lot of work at first, having her and her tummy get used to it, as well as us get used to using it.  She could eat, so it was odd feeding her this way.  She was still able to enjoy all the foods she did before, we just used this after to give her the extra calories she needed.

I never realized was a blessing it was to have had this feeding tube in place.

Three years later Kennedy started having a lot of seizures.  She started throwing up a lot.  We actually ended up switching her gtube(which goes to her stomach) to a gjtube (which goes to the small bowel) because she just could not tolerate the food in her stomach.  Using the gjtube meant that she would get her feeds and medications and would not throw them up.  This was essential as pretty much at that time she started taking more and more medications for her seizures.  It was a life saver!

I could not imagine having to learn how to do tube feedings on top of taking care of a child who was having seizures most of the day.  I was so happy to have been familiar with it already, and know when something was not right with it.

Today Kennedy does not eat anything by mouth.  She is tube fed dependant.  When she started having seizures three years ago, she also had stroke like episodes.  She lost all her skills from sitting up, talking, to eating.  We have tried a lot to get her to eat some by mouth, yet she gets so anxious.  We decided to let it be.  She gets her nutrition from her formula through her tube.  She takes all her medicaitons through her tube.  Her tube is essential!

GO AHEAD AND ASK ME! What do you want to know about tube feeding that you have been afraid or uncomfortable asking?

I hate staring....just ask.  I am always open to talking about my child's disability/medical condition at any time.  I have stopped and talked with complete strangers many times.  I  have no problems talking.  I have problems with people staring and not talking to me, pointing fingers or shushing their children away like she is contagious.

Please feel free to ask questions!

When I see a child with a feeding tube I pretty much just think of a baby with a bottle or a child with a spoon. For some children it is nothing more than that. Some are able to lead very normal lives and do everything other kiddos can do. When Kennedy first started she was able to eat too.  When she got around well before, she got around with her feeding tube.  Many kids can still do the same things, and getting their tube feedings helps give them the energy to do those things they like!

Toggle Bandz

>
Do you have problems keeping headbands in your hair?  I sure do.  Many of the elastic types slip right down and drive me nuts!  Toggle Bandz were created by Amanda Duke(stay at home military wife) having had found frustrations in market headbands and hair accessories.
My 5 yr old daughter has thin fine hair and they would slip or roll right off her head. So I developed Toggle Bandz adjustable headbands.
Amanda sent me a couple toggle bandz to try out with me and the girls.  With Kennedy being unable to sit up on her own the Toggle Bandz were still hard to use for her.  It was mostly just because her head is typically sitting against something, so it was difficult for me to adjust behind her head.  I was able to do it while she was sitting on the floor against me.  It stayed for a while, but then did slide out.  I used the Toggle Bandz too.  They worked great for me.  They stayed very well and I only repositioned it one time wearing it all day.  I like that you can easily place them, and then with a simple press of the button, and pulling of the ribbon you can tighten it as much as you need.  With this adjustment these can be placed in a couple different positions on your head, depending if you want it up front more or higher on your head if you have bangs like me.

I also like that you can buy one Toggle Bandz, yet they can be used for little girls to adults.  I think these would be good for preschool age and up.  The adjustment piece on the back can come off the ribbon, so I would use cautiously around children under 3 years old or those that might put this item in their mouth.

I think this one is adorable.  Click here to purchase.

Toggle Bandz can be made in all sizes, widths, colors and themes, Custom orders are always welcome.  She has many ribbons to choose from polka dots, prints, to sports themes(should have ordered some football ones for Superbowl).  Some even have flowers, ribbons, or rhinestones on them.  The prices range from $4.50 for those that are just the ribbons, to $6.40 for those with the added items like rhinestones.  For more information or to purchase please visit http://togglebandz.weebly.com/or you can likeToggle Bandz on facebook.

dislosure:  I received the Toggle Bandz for free to review.  These are my personal opinions.

#Mamavation Monday... New Mommy Makeover week #2

>
Well I had the shortest long week...if that makes sense.  I guess most people would call it a long week when it is stressful, yet being busy sure made it go by fast for me, so that is where I get the shortest long week.  We had lots of snow, sick kids, and Superbowl.  Living in Wisconsin, and having the Packers in the Superbowl (and yeah Packers....Congrats on getting that trophe!)  meant for a big party with lots of junk to eat.  So with all of this, I didnt have a great week eating and was very tired too.

A week and a half ago I started the New Mommy Makeover.  I enjoy the workouts on the phase 1 dvd, that is geared to reshaping your postnatal body.  I am supposed to do interval workouts on at least 2 of the days off of the dvd.  I really have not done these, as I do not have a timer to keep track of how long I am in the interval.  I did do two days of some sort of workout.  Monday I did snow shovelling, at times taking it easier and other times pushing it harder.

Tuesday I did my day 3 workout on the dvd.  It was a good workout.  Again I like the setup of these workouts.  Colleen Riddel splits up the workouts in three sets with water breaks in between.  Each set focuses on muscle groups of the arms, legs and core and has a workout that raises your heart rate in between.  You also do each of these exercises twice before the water break and then switching to a different set.  What I really like the most with these workouts is she is always reminding you to put your "mind in the muscle", really focus on which muscles you are using.  This is a great way to make sure you are doing the exercises properly and getting the most from them.

Wednesday I ended up taking the day off, although I was planning on having Mondays as my rest days each week as I am always busy.  So I guess I am glad I did do something Monday, even though it wasnt a "workout".  Wednesday we had a snowday, and I just seemed busy cleaning up while my son made lots of messes and the kids wanted a lot of my time that day.

Thursday I did some more of the Gold's gym cardio boxing.  I kind of feel like this game is somewhat of intervals themselves.  You start out doing some basic moves, adding more, and getting quicker.  Then you switch feet and start over.  I did 30 minutes of this exergame which really is probably my favorite game.  I love it and feel like it is a great workout that covers all your muscles.

Friday my stepdaughters were over and were playing the Wii.  I told them they had 30 minutes and then I was kicking them off so I could do my workout.  Well then of course plans didnt work out.  Kennedy started throwing up!  I got her cleaned up and Lauren started fussing.  I was getting her settled down and Kennedy threw up again....and again....and again...until 1am!  Yea I never got my workout in.

I was soooo tired Saturday, only getting 3 hours sleep....but I was good and managed to do my dvd workout anyways.  This time I was starting week 2, so that means I was doing workout #1 again.  Last week I thought it was pretty easy, this week I guess being tired was rough on me, cause the workout felt tougher.  I pushed through and did it.

I was going to make up for missing a workout Sunday, but I ended up spending too much time cleaning, and with the kids, that I never did my workout.  Then I ate lots of food during the Superbowl  ...naughty me!

So here I am on Monday....and today is my rest day, but I did do some shovelling again today.  It was harder than last weeks too as it was slushy heavy stuff.  My goals this week are to stay on track with the workouts and get them in earlier in the day so that if things start getting busy I will have already done my workout.  I am planning on doing the New Mommy Makeover dvd Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.  Then will do some other type of workouts on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

My other goal is also to avoid the junk food.  I did really good this week with my portions at meal times, but did indulge a couple nights, and really over indulged on Sunday.  I told my husband to quit buying me candy.  He keeps thinking I am working hard and deserve something I like...but I told him it isnt helping me.  So hopefully he will listen, cause if it is in my house I just cant resist it.  For him it is easy to (as he calls it) put the fork down.  For me I need the "out of sight out of mind" diet.

So anyways there were my ups and downs of the week, and I do have to say I was happy that I didnt gain anything and had actually lost 1/2 a pound.  Although 1/2 a pound could just be a difference in my clothes.  So I am hoping next week you will read I was much more active with my muscles and not my mouth(eating)...and am hoping to see at least a 2 pound drop!

Bean B Clean review and giveaway

>
Giveaway closed.
Congrats ElisaB!

Joe and Linda Smaldore , grandparents who were stumped when it came time to help their newborn grandson get rid of a bad case of cradle cap.  The Smaldores searched for a solution- certain that they would find a product on the market to solve this age old problem. When nothing turned up, the Smaldores set out on a quest to come up with a solution themselves. That’s how the Bean-B-Clean™ was born.

The Bean-B-Clean™ is a super-gentle yet effective small scalp massaging brush that cleans away the crustiness and flakes associated with cradle cap for good. Just wet baby’s head with warm water, massage a small amount (about 1 teaspoon) of your favorite oil (baby, olive, vegetable) into baby’s scalp, then apply gentle pressure while massaging with the Bean-B-Clean™ brush. Your baby is now on the way to being cradle cap free!

I saw this item while I was pregnant with Lauren and thought this would be nice to have on hand with a new baby.  After a few weeks Lauren began getting a mild case of cradle cap, so I pulled the Bean-B-Clean out and gave it a try.  It worked pretty well.  I used a little bit of olive oil and massaged it onto her head, and a tiny bit on her forhead around eye brows.  I then used the Bean-B-Clean brush and gently brushed it around.  Lauren seemed to like the gentl massage on her head and was pretty calm.  She didnt really like me doing it on her eye brows, although she cries every time I wash her face.  I have seen pretty good results so far.  She still has dry flakes around her eyebrows, but I didn't use the brush as much in that area.  Her head is pretty clear.  So I think it is a good item to use when you first see some flakes.  I have not used it on a tough case of cradle cap, so I am not sure how well it would work.  My guess is that it would help as the oil would soften the flakes and the brush could help brush the flakes away.  I like having it handy for removing the flakes before they get too bad.

I even tried the Bean-B-Clean on my older daughter.  She has a dry scalp, and one side of her face gets really dry and flaky around her hairline and her eyebrows.  I tried it on all these areas, but at the time just used it with the shampoo and facial wash.  Although it didnt help too much on her scalp, as she has a lot of hair, it did help quite a bit on her face and eye brows.  Actually for her eyebrows it worked really well to get the flakes off.  Plus it was a lot gentler than me using a cloth or trying to get the flakes off with my fingers.  The brush is really soft and light.  If you are familiar with brushing techniques used for individuals with sensory issues then you will get what the brush is like.  It is very similar to the brushes used for this.  So I can understand why it is comfortable and massaging.

The Bean-B-Clean™ brush has a suggested retail of $6.99 each.  You can visit http://www.bean-b-clean.com/ to find retailers to purchase this from.

Now a days I really do not have free hands too often.  While I was pregnant with Lauren I just knew I would need a baby carrier of some sort.  Baby's love to be carried and snuggled.  On top of that, while I am out with Kennedy I have to push a wheelchair, so that does not leave me with hands to push a baby stroller.  I have a front carrier that I really do not care for.  It is hard to put on myself and I do not find it very comfortable.  I have seen many wrap and sling types and really didnt know what to get or if they were comfortable.  I received an offer to try out the Sleepy Wrap and am very impressed!

The Sleepy Wrap baby carrier securely holds your little one close to you. Our baby wrap is specially designed for your baby's first year of life, yet you may comfortably carry your baby for as long as you both desire. Time and time again you will find your baby sleeping peacefully against your chest.

When I first saw the Sleepy Wrap I innitially thought it would be a pain to put on and get baby Lauren wrapped in.  Boy was I wrong!  It took me one trial of putting it on, and figuring out how tight it should be.  I then was able to do it without any problems at all. After two times I didnt even need to look at the instructions.  The Sleepy Wrap comes with a nice instruction booklet with text and illustrations on how to put the wrap on and three different ways to position your baby.  It also has many safety tips, so you are using it properly.

The Sleepy Wrap is so comfortable I even find myself wearing it and not realizing it after I have taken Lauren out of it.  It has no uncomfortable straps or buckles poking me or baby Lauren, so it has no pressure points.  The material is so soft against moms and baby's skin.  It is so adjustable anyone can wear it.  It doesnt matter what clothes I have on, being one piece of material it can wrap around any clothing and be adjusted to fit properly and comfortably.  It is light weight and breathable too so you do not get too warm wearing it.

Lauren loves it too.  Every time I have put her in it she has been right at ease.  She didnt like it when I moved her from position to a different position while I checked out the different types of ways she could be in it.  She likes me just putting her in it and letting her be.  I like that she is right there face to face so we can interact.  I was able to wear her and even mop my floors.  It takes a little getting used to bending while doing things like mopping, but once you do it is so nice being hands free.  Washing dishes was a little tougher, as her butt kept hitting the counter edge as I reached in, but I was able to get some done.  Some days she likes just looking around, and other days she is fussy and we use it to walk around or sway some to help her fall asleep.
(when asleep you can bring the one shoulder piece over their head for a little more support.)
